UNICEF: 25 000 children die each day due to poverty.

There are 2.8 million prostitutes in India. The girl in the third picture (taken by
Mary Ellen Mark) is twelve years old. When a girl is sold into the sex trade, she is taken to a brothel and usually given an education which includes a tutorial in how to please a customer, constant exposure to porn and repeated rape- all to prepare her for the 25 customers she will have a day. She will, on a good day make 1.60 dollars per time. If she asks the man to wear a condom, the price will decreases to around 40 cents.
Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book. In 2005- the wealthiest 20% of the world accounted for 76.6% of total private consumption. The poorest fifth just 1.5%.

  1. There is a heartbreaking and highly interesting documentary done by The Private Eye on the sex trade/trafficking industry all over the world. (It doesn't focus on child sex slaves, but it's in the same vein.)
It's worth watching- I'll try to find a link to it.
